Our Lady’s gaze is light, almost subdued but full of love.
The Child Jesus looks to the Mother in devout admiration.
There is no love greater than a mother’s love for her children and in this work the artist wanted to represent the purest and absolute love.
What better symbol to celebrate a birth ?

Madonna of the embrace
Intense and poignant, symbol of the purest love, the love that Our Lady has for all her children.

Immaculate motherhood
Unlike what many believe, the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, proclaimed by Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854 (and celebrated by the Catholic Church every December 8), does not refer to the conception of Jesus, but to that of Mary. According to this truth of faith, in fact, the Virgin Mary was conceived pure, without original sin: God preserved Mary from every stain of original sin from the first moment of her conception in the womb of Saint Anne.
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is also an opportunity to rediscover the most delicate features of Mary’s motherhood, represented in dozens of images and paintings.
Famous in this sense is the icon known as "The Theotokos (meaning mother of God) of Vladimir" or Mother of God of tenderness, Our Lady of Vladimir or Virgin of Vladimir. Painted in the twelfth century, venerated as the protector of Russia by her enemies and herself, it is preserved in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Today more than ever, my prayer goes to her so that she may give us the grace of the end of the war.

Madonna of protection
In this artwork, the artist portrays the Madonna holding Jesus to herself, with a clearly protective embrace, which generated the name of the work itself.

Jesus blesses
When one speaks of the Blessing of Jesus, one usually refers to an adult Jesus, and especially to the sacred heart.
But the sacred scriptures tell us that already as a child Jesus was aware of his mission, which is given him from birth in fact, in his straw cradle, is represented with open arms, as if to want to welcome and embrace humanity, while receiving the affection of the shepherds first and then the Three Wise Men.

Madonna of sweetness
As a man, as a Christian and as an artist, I believe that a hard woman is an abomination in God’s eyes, as well as mine.
The exact opposite is incarnate and well represented by the supreme sweetness of Mary, manifestation of the Love that women know how to feel and communicate with looks, movements and, as in this work, very sweet hugs.
